At Home In The Kitchen...

Sunday was a beautiful day, and whilst everyone else was out enjoying the first sunshine of this year, I was busy demolishing my kitchen. My dad announced that we were having our first BBQ of the year as soon as he saw the weather report on friday. So I thought in honour of the moments occasion I would make a few tasty treats.

I began with possibly the easiest thing to make, it was a simple potato salad. I mostly made this because my mum is vegetarian, and doesn't usually get a lot of choice when we have a BBQ, and she usually doesn't particularly like the shop bought potato salad, but quite likes the home made kind. It was pretty simple and only took approximately 15 minutes.

I also made fairy cakes, they are my go-to baked product, whenever I feel like making something tasty but quick and simple it's the one food I always go to. It's also the first thing I learnt to bake on my own, so it's sort of a happy reminder of that.

My  show-stopper of the weekend, however, was my New York Cheesecake. It was the best cheesecake i've ever eaten, and i've had my fair share of cheesecake. I'd never made cheesecake before, and honestly, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be, considering the recipe I used said it was simple. I made the actual cheesecake on saturday and on sunday decorated it with fresh strawberries and served. It was super yummy!

Monday also happened to be my mum's birthday, and my present to her was a pasta maker with all the little accessories and other things needed to make pasta. Mum's never made it from scratch before and has always said that she wanted to try to do it, and she's always teaching me to cook and bake, so I thought it would be appropriate. Mum says that we will make some together soon, so updates on pasta making coming soon.
