Or as I am calling it... The Alex Day Scandal!! *cue intense music*
First off, here are some influential Youtuber's talking about sexual consent:
Thanks Youtuber's.
I'll start by saying that at one point in my life, I was a fan of people such as Alex Day, Tom Milsom, Eddplant. Luckily I grew up and found them to be annoying pretentious twats. However, not everyone has the same opinion as me, and I am able to understand that they have fan bases, which consist of mainly young girls.
Being a 17, nearly 18 year old girl, it's scary to think that these people who you grow up watching and idealising, are doing things this awful. The Daily Dot article's reporting on both Alex Day's Sexual Assault and Tom Milsom's Underage Sex Scandal state the apparent facts of the two stories, showing quotes from Alex Day saying that he might have misread a girls body language, or not noticed that she didn't want it right in that moment.
I'm just shocked at how the culture of abusive relationships appears to be becoming more normal. It's not right. In many cases, young girls don't know what is abusive and what isn't. Abuse isn't always violent, and that doesn't seem to be clear. And don't even get me started on that bloody Blurred Lines song.
Just, everyone be safe. And not saying 'no' doesn't mean 'yes'.
